Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, has accused opposition politicians of “actively working against the state’s interests,” particularly in the context of the country’s European integration efforts over the past four years.
Speaking during a session of the temporary parliamentary investigative commission on Wednesday - which is examining actions by political figures between 2012 and 2025 deemed harmful to Georgia’s foreign policy objectives - Botchorishvili reflected on her previous role as Chairwoman of the European Integration Committee.
“These four years have highlighted not only the threats and challenges facing Georgia, but also revealed who is truly acting in the interest of the country,” she said. “My role in leading the European Integration Committee allowed me to make a small contribution to Georgia’s security and its European aspirations.”
Botchorishvili also said her tenure provided insight into the political dynamics surrounding Georgia’s EU relations, stressing that challenges to the country’s foreign policy had become particularly pronounced during this period.
In a pointed criticism of her political rivals, Botchorishvili condemned what she described as the destructive actions of opposition representatives.
“It is deeply regrettable to see fellow Georgian politicians using all their strength to fight against the state,” she said. “During my time leading delegations to both the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee and the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, opposition members had both the mandate and the opportunity to act in Georgia’s interest - but that opportunity was never taken.”
