Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili has said that European Parliament resolutions carry no binding force and have limited practical significance, but cannot be completely ignored because they contribute to narratives that may harm Georgia's national interests.
Speaking on the Imedi LIVE programme on Thursday, Botchorishvili noted that Georgian authorities had already responded when the resolution and accompanying report were approved by the European Parliament. She said that while European politicians and Brussels officials have often argued that such resolutions do not play a decisive role in shaping European Union policy, Georgia still views the European Parliament as an important EU institution alongside the European Commission and the Council of the European Union.
Botchorishvili further argued that the documents reflect the views of certain politicians and help shape political narratives. She claimed that the resolutions are based on false allegations and are designed to damage Georgia's interests and international reputation.
The Foreign Minister added that, despite lacking legal force or significant political weight, the documents are unacceptable to the Georgian government. She added that Tbilisi would continue to respond to what it views as unfounded criticism and campaigns against the country, which she said are aimed at undermining Georgia's national interests.
