Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Thursday said discussions with a visiting delegation from the United States focused on the process of resetting relations between the two countries.
Botchorishvili made the remarks following a meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Sonata Coulter, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State overseeing Russia, the Caucasus, and European Security and Political Affairs.
The official stressed the visit by the US State Department delegation was aimed at discussing ways to further develop cooperation between Georgia and the United States.
“We discussed the issues that are important in the process of resetting relations between the two countries and spoke about future steps,” Botchorishvili said.
She added that another US delegation was expected to visit Georgia at the end of May, when the next stages of bilateral cooperation will be discussed in “greater detail.”
Botchorishvili said both sides recognised the importance of maintaining relations based on mutual respect and pragmatic cooperation.
“It is encouraging that the same messages voiced by the Georgian side are also being heard from the US delegation,” she said.
