Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Saturday commented on the presence of international observers monitoring the country’s local government elections, stressing that questions about democracy were best addressed by them.

Botchorishvili noted that foreign observers had registered with the Central Election Commission in accordance with Georgian legislation and were present from all countries that expressed interest in monitoring the vote.

“International observers are in Georgia, registered according to the law, with the opportunity to observe the electoral process. Observers have come from every country that showed an interest in following Georgia’s elections. I do not know what assessments some may have regarding democracy, but we have seen observers from European countries. If anyone has questions about democracy in Europe, perhaps they should be the ones to provide explanations,” the Minister said.
