Following its victory in last month’s general elections, the ruling Georgian Dream party has confirmed that Irakli Kobakhidze will be re-nominated as Prime Minister, while Shalva Papuashvili will remain as Speaker of Parliament.

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, announced Honorary Chair Bidzina Ivanishvili had proposed Kobakhidze for the post, receiving “unanimous support” from the party’s Political Council members.

He noted the Council meeting earlier on Thursday also addressed other matters, including budgetary planning and the timeline for the upcoming Presidential elections.

Mdinaradze emphasized that the date for the Presidential elections would be set after the first session of the new Parliament, in line with constitutional procedures.

The first session of the new Parliament is expected to take place later this month. However, the opposition has raised concerns that a lawsuit filed by the President regarding the election results could delay the process.
