Mamuka Mdinaradze, newly appointed head of Georgia’s State Security Service, has said his personal challenge was to ensure that the country’s intelligence agencies were as strong as the ambitions of the Georgian state.
Mdinaradze was confirmed by the Parliament earlier today. Speaking to MPs following his approval, he outlined what he saw as the main challenges facing the country.
“Today, this country faces two major challenges. One is occupation and its consequences. We must create all the conditions necessary to unite the country,” he said.
He also highlighted the threat of foreign interference. “We know that in this country, despite spending tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars or euros, there have been ongoing provocations. In response to these calls or directives, we must present a firm position and ensure that security matters are properly addressed,” Mdinaradze added.
He described his personal goal as strengthening Georgia’s security services to match the ambitions of the state, emphasizing the need for a robust and resilient intelligence apparatus capable of addressing both internal and external threats.
