Georgian Dream’s Executive Secretary Mamuka Mdinaradze declared that Georgia is now setting precedents in lawmaking that will later be adopted in the United States and Europe, and he expressed pride in this fact.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Mdinaradze responded to criticism of recent Georgian policies — such as the controversial move to ban face masks at protests — by highlighting Georgia’s legislative leadership.

“Ten years ago, if someone had said Georgia would adopt decisions before the US and Europe, people would have laughed at us,” Mdinaradze said. “But that reality is now in the past. Today, we see the same decisions being taken in the US and Europe that Georgia has already made.”

Mdinaradze added that identifying lawbreakers is a fundamental principle everywhere, not just in Georgia.

“If you can’t identify an offender, the state must ensure that identification is possible. That’s why mask-wearing at protests is banned here, just as it is now banned in some places in the US too. Of course, wearing a mask elsewhere is not prohibited — this is only about protests,” he said.

Mdinaradze also commented on the political climate, implying that Georgia’s critics are simply ignoring basic truths.

“We all know that silence can be a sign of agreement — but in this case, it’s a sign of arrogance. Because these critics once had the nerve to attack the basic truth that unidentified offenders are a problem,” he said.

Mdinaradze concluded by predicting that more decisions taken in Georgia will soon be mirrored in the West.

“I can guarantee that many more decisions will be made in the U.S. and Europe that Georgia has already taken. And personally, I am proud of this.”
