Mamuka Mdinaradze, the executive secretary of Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream, asserted that French President Emmanuel Macron indirectly acknowledged the legitimacy of the Georgian government. The statement comes amid a political clash over Macron’s recent remarks criticizing the country’s democratic trajectory.

Speaking to reporters, Mdinaradze suggested that Macron’s communication with the Georgian leadership, including a phone call with Georgian Dream’s honorary chairman, reinforced the government’s legitimacy. “Macron has effectively recognized the Georgian government during this time. The opposition seems shaken by the acknowledgment, as it undermines their narrative,” Mdinaradze stated.

He also criticized the opposition’s reaction to Macron’s remarks, claiming they are attempting to leverage international criticisms to undermine the ruling party. Mdinaradze accused opposition leaders of frequently attacking international figures and institutions when such interactions don’t align with their political agenda.

“The legitimacy of the Georgian government comes from the Georgian people,” he concluded, dismissing the opposition’s criticisms as baseless.
