The Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Mamuka Mdinaradze, has welcomed Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s decision to expand the functions of the Government Administration’s Audit Office, granting it broader oversight over the effectiveness of the entire government.

Mdinaradze described the move as “one of the most significant decisions in recent times,” emphasizing that the newly established Government Efficiency Department will be tasked with monitoring the implementation of decisions by ministries, legal entities of public law (LEPLs), municipal bodies, and other branches of the executive government.

“When Irakli Kobakhidze was confirmed as Prime Minister, our team declared the fight against corruption and strict oversight of state funds as a top priority. While significant reforms have already been implemented over the past year, we believe even stricter control over budget expenditures is necessary to ensure transparency and accountability,” Mdinaradze stated.

He also noted that the ruling party discussed the initiative within the parliamentary majority and expressed unanimous support for the Prime Minister’s decision.

“We have ambitious plans when it comes to fighting corruption. Our goal is to be among the world’s leading countries in this area, achieving the best results. This is not an easy task, but today’s decision will help the Prime Minister achieve this objective,” he added.

The newly established department will oversee the effective implementation of government decisions across all levels of the executive branch. As part of the restructuring, the Internal Audit Service will be transformed into this new department, tasked with ensuring greater efficiency in government operations.
