Ruling party executive secretary claims EU wants to drag Georgia into war

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party, accused the European Union of pressuring Georgia into becoming a geopolitical ’pawn,’ suggesting that international actors aim to involve the country in a conflict.

Mdinaradze questioned the rationale behind granting Moldova an EU candidate status, calling it a member of the Russia-influenced CIS. He claimed the EU has sidelined Georgia, which he argued has made greater progress on reforms.

“They give Moldova, a CIS member state negotiating with Russia on trade, candidate status, but withhold it from Georgia, which is ahead in every criterion,” he said.

He asserted that external forces seek to destabilize Georgia to use it in global power struggles, claiming that suggestions for imposing sanctions against Russia or pushing the country toward war could have devastating consequences for Georgia’s economy and sovereignty.

“If not to drag Georgia into war, what is the motive? Suggest another explanation. There isn’t one,” he devclared at a press-conference on Friday.

Mdinaradze also dismissed criticism of Georgian Dream as an orchestrated effort to undermine Georgia’s independence, stating that such attacks intensified as the government pursued policies resisting external influence. He emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining stability and independence, even amid rising tensions with Western partners.
