The ruling party Georgian Dream has announced plans to amend the country’s Criminal Code by reintroducing the clause on treason.

The announcement was made today, February 17, by the party’s Executive Secretary, Mamuka Mdinaradze.

“With our decision, Georgia’s Criminal Code will include – or, to put it more accurately, will restore – the clause on treason, which was previously removed by the United National Movement. Whether this surprises anyone or not, or whether it is seen as symbolic, the fact remains that they removed it in April 2007, just months before the August War,” Mdinaradze stated.
