Gori city court in central Georgia on Monday released Ioseb Maisuradze, a man who attacked the Girchi More Freedom opposition party leader in June, on 2,000 GEL bail.

“He regrets what he has done. Moreover, if he meets Japaridze somewhere, he will shake his hand and apologize,” Maisuradze’s lawyer said following the trial hearing.

Prosecutor Otar Dokhnadze said since the evidence was not disputed, there was no longer any risk of influencing the witnesses. However, he claimed he was against bail.

Japaridze was driving to conduct a lecture in the youth camp in Borjomi on June 17, when he was attacked. The camp was also attacked by a group of individuals.

A few minutes after the attack on Japaridze, Maisuradze said in his social media post he had attacked Japaridze.

The police arrested Ioseb Maisuradze on the same day.
