Man names ‘political motive’ behind attack

Ivane Gvelesiani, who was attacked in Georgia’s city of Rustavi late yesterday, says that he was physically abused because of campaigning for the united opposition ahead of the October 2 municipal elections. 

Earlier he said that he was fired from a local governing body for supporting the opposition. 

Gvelesiani has face injuries and is being treated in Rustavi hospital. 

His relative says that he was attacked by an unidentified man in the yard near Gvelesiani’s apartment. Police are looking into the case.
