A man arrested in Tbilisi who was wanted for supporting a mafia-type group was extradited from Georgia to Italy, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia said on Friday.
The detainee was wanted for money laundering, unauthorized access to a computer system, cyber fraud, false reporting of a crime, and illegal purchase and storage of drugs.
“The investigation carried out by the Italian law enforcement authorities established that the mafia-type criminal group Ndrangheta operated in the country with a hierarchical structure, and the members of the group acted in accordance with strictly established rules”, the Georgian body said.
The wanted person has been actively involved in the illegal activities of the group and participated in the development and implementation of various criminal plans since 2015, it added.
The Tbilisi City Court considered the extradition of the wanted person detained in Tbilisi admissible, and the final decision was made by the Ministry of Justice on October 16.
