Mariam Lashkhi, chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, said meetings held in Washington, D.C. demonstrated what she described as a shift in rhetoric and approach toward Georgia by the United States.
Commenting on the Georgian delegation’s visit to the United States, Lashkhi said discussions with US lawmakers were pragmatic and focused on strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries.
She further claimed the talks were aimed not only at restoring bilateral strategic partnership but also at significantly improving it and launching what she described as a “new chapter” in relations focused on concrete results.
Lashkhi noted that economic cooperation and regional connectivity were key topics during the meetings, including discussions about the development of the Middle Corridor and Georgia’s role in the project.
She also said continued engagement with members of the US Congress remained important for maintaining communication based on shared values and for promoting cooperation that could translate into economic benefits and increased US investment in Georgia.
Lashkhi further argued that the current US administration was taking what she described as a more pragmatic approach, with funding and resources increasingly directed toward economic development and trade rather than other areas.
The Georgian lawmaker said such cooperation could lead to tangible results for bilateral relations and contribute to economic opportunities for Georgia.
