EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has called on the Georgian government to engage in an inclusive dialogue with civil society and respond to the will of the people. She made the remarks ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg in the coming hours, where the situation in Georgia is on the agenda.

“We will discuss the concerning developments in Georgia. The Georgian people - through the last three elections, the ongoing protest actions, and numerous opinions polls - have shown that they want a European future. But the government does not share this vision,” Kos said.

She stressed that opposition figures remain imprisoned, while the voices of journalists and civil society representatives are being muted. “At the same time, the government not only tolerates but actively promotes disinformation campaigns against the European Union,” she added.

“We condemn all narratives and attacks against European institutions, their representatives, and our member states. We urge the government to listen to its people, be inclusive, engage with civil society, and follow their wish to become part of Europe,” the Commissioner said.
