The United States has reportedly set 9 April as the target date to end its war with Iran, with negotiations between Washington and Tehran expected to begin soon, according to Ynet.
The report, citing an anonymous source in Israel, said the proposed timeline would allow US President Donald Trump to visit Israel for Independence Day celebrations and receive a prestigious national award.
The Israel Prize is considered the country’s highest civilian honour and is traditionally awarded on Independence Day.
According to the same source, US-Iran talks are expected to take place in Pakistan later this week. The source also claimed that Israel had not been informed in advance about the negotiations, allegedly due to the involvement of Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf.
Earlier today Trump said a deal with Iran could be reached within five days or even sooner, adding that Tehran was interested in pursuing peace talks. He also ordered a halt to strikes on targets inside Iran.
At the same time, sources cited by Reuters said the US had been in contact with Iran’s parliamentary speaker, though Ghalibaf denied that any negotiations with Washington had taken place and reiterated his support for the country’s Supreme Leader.
