Head of the United National Movement (UNM), Nika Melia, claims that he is winning the Tbilisi mayoral race, while other opposition candidates are also leading the municipal election run-offs.
“For the first time, the coalition team (UNM and five other opposition parties) is winning the race in Tbilisi.
We are writing a new page in history,” Melia said. However, the ruling Georgian Dream party head, Irakli Kobakhidze, stated today that the party is winning 18 of 20 election constituencies and urged voters to actively cast ballots for the GD candidates to defeat the UNM nominees in the remaining two constituencies.
Kobakhidze did not say in which constituencies the opposition candidates were ahead of the GD candidates.
Georgia is holding municipal election run-offs today where a total of 2,088,722 voters, including 1,002,525 in Tbilisi are eligible to elect 20 mayors and 42 majoritarian members of the City Assemblies.
