MEP Viola von Cramon on Wednesday said the Georgian authorities had “betrayed” the country’s constitution, its European future and their people, sharing a photo from Tbilisi, with demonstrators protesting the adoption of the foreign agents bill with its first reading by the country’s legislative body on Tuesday.

“We stand with the brave people who fight for their freedoms and do not want to be part of the Russian World”,  the MEP tweeted.

The parliament adopted the bill with its first reading amid large-scale public protests and severe criticism of the international community.

Two bills proposed by the People’s Power movement – composed of former members of the ruling Georgian Dream party who still remain in the parliamentary majority and are critical to the US and the west – envisage the registration of domestic NGOs and media organizations as foreign agents if they receive more than 20 percent of their funding from foreign donors.
