MEP Viola von Cramon said ahead of debates in the European Parliament on Wednesday that  “we support the EU candidacy for Georgia as soon as its government stops democratic backsliding. The ball is in the Georgian Dream’s court.”

“An important day for Georgia, the EU Parliament will debate a key resolution shortly before the historic EU summit. Georgia has a vibrant, European society.

We support the EU candidacy for Georgia as soon as its government stops democratic backsliding. The ball is in GD’s court,” Cramon tweeted.

Cramon and top figures of the Georgia Dream party have criticized each other over the past several weeks.

Georgian Dream officials have accused the MEP of cooperating with the “radical” United National Movement opposition, while the MEP responded that “she has always been the supporter of Georgia and not any of its party.”

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili addressed the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola yesterday to focus on the genuine progress Georgia has made over years on its EU parth and not on particular cases.

Georgia applied for EU membership back in March of this year.
