MEP Juknevičienė says ex-pres. Saakashvili reached “critical state”

MEP Rasa Juknevičienė on Wednesday tweeted imprisoned former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili had reached a “critical state”, after the engagement of the former official in a trial hearing on grantig his release on medical grounds via a video link. 

“President Saakashvili’s condition has reached a critical state and is deteriorating by the minute.I call on Georgian authorities to allow him to be immediately transferred to the ICU to receive necessary treatment. There is no more time for political deliberations”, the MEP said. 

Saakashvili on Wednesday claimed his condition was “critical’, he “faced torture and poisoning” while in custody, and asked the judge to allow his transportation abroad for treatment. 

In comments, the Government representatives said the former official was engaged in “self-harm”, refusing to eat to create an excuse for his release on medical grounds.
