Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday accused MEP Andius Kubilius of “directly involved” in the campaign, which aimed to “drag Georgia into Russia’s war in Ukraine”.

Responding to the MEP’s recent statement, that Kobakhidze should have asked pardon for accusing MEP Viola von Cramon of “anti-Georgian activities”, Kobakhidze said that both MEPs were acting “against Georgian interests”.

“I will remind you what Viola von Cramon said. She said something like that, that the European Parliament’s resolution, and specifically the part of it that concerned [the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party] Bidzina Ivanishvili’s sanctions, was developed together with American partners”, Kobakhidze said, noting that the MEP’s statement was “disrespectful” to the US partners first of all..

The European Parliament resolution in June called for sanctions against Ivanishvili for his “influence on the current Government and connections with the Kremlin”.

The ruling party officials had slammed the EP for the resolution and the recommendation, stating they were targeted against Georgia;s interests.
