Merkel expresses solidarity for Ukraine after months of silence

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed solidarity for Ukraine after months of silence pushing criticism of her own policy towards Moscow.

 

She described Russia’s war in Ukraine as  “barbaric” at an event on Wednesday.

 

Merkel, who served as German chancellor for 16 years until December, suggested she would not offer any advice from the sidelines but she approved the government’s efforts to “find an end to this barbaric war.”

 

“My solidarity goes to Ukraine,” the participant quoted her as saying at a farewell ceremony for the outgoing president of the DGB trade union confederation, Reuters reported.
