Metropolitan of Akhalkalaki, Kumurdo and Kari, Reverend Nikoloz, has visited imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili in Rustavi Prison No.12, as he says to congratulate him on Christmas.

The top cleric says that every Christmas he visits ‘a category of people’ and Saakashvili has turned one of the inmates he visited for Christmas.

“I have used my right and visited Saakashvili. I am coming from other inmates now,” said the metropolitan.

He stated that he is not a doctor. However, Saakashvili ‘looks thinner and pale.’

Saakashvili, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1 after eight years in political exile.

He is now serving his term for abuse of power, as he was convicted in absentia back in 2018.
