The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA) announced that, in close coordination between the Migration Department and other relevant units, a total of 107 foreign nationals were deported from Georgia in September.
According to the ministry, those expelled included citizens from Russia, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Nigeria, Cameroon, Sudan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Myanmar, Nepal, Syria, Azerbaijan, and Ethiopia.
MIA data indicated that, over the first nine months of 2025, a total of 852 foreign nationals were deported for lacking legal status in Georgia - a record high that significantly exceeds the combined total of deportations in 2022–2024.
The ministry also highlighted new legislative amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons, which came into effect this month. The changes aim to strengthen mechanisms to combat illegal migration and enhance migration control across Georgia’s territory, it said.
The reforms streamline procedures for detecting and deporting foreigners without legal status, tighten administrative penalties under Georgia’s Code of Administrative Offenses, and increase fines for overstaying legal residence from GEL 1,000 to 3,000. Deportees will also face bans on re-entry for defined periods.
“These changes are part of the state policy to combat illegal migration and serve to protect the rule of law, public order, and security in Georgia,” the ministry said.
