Thirteen foreign nationals have been detained in Georgia for violating the country’s immigration laws, the Interior Ministry announced on Friday.
The ministry’s Migration Department carried out a special immigration control operation targeting individuals suspected of residing in Georgia without legal grounds, the MIA press office said.
Those detained include citizens of Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan, India and Turkey. Officials said they were found to be in breach of requirements set out in Georgia’s law on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons.
The individuals are being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre while deportation procedures are under way.
Authorities said such immigration control measures would be conducted regularly to ensure effective enforcement of the law.
