As part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, the Migration Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a special immigration control operation, resulting in the detention of 21 foreign nationals, the Ministry said on Saturday.
The operation was based on intelligence indicating the presence of individuals residing in Georgia without legal grounds, the body added. Department officers inspected several specific locations to identify foreign citizens who were violating immigration regulations.
“As a result of the comprehensive operation, 21 foreign nationals were detained, including citizens of India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran and Egypt. It was established that they were staying in the country in violation of the requirements of Georgia’s Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons,” the Ministry said.
The detained individuals have been placed in the temporary accommodation centre of the Department, where procedures are underway for their deportation from Georgia.
