The Interior Ministry has detained 28 foreign citizens found to be residing in Georgia without legal grounds during a targeted immigration control operation.
The Ministry’s Migration Department carried out a special immigration inspection aimed at identifying foreign nationals staying in the country in violation of legal requirements. Officials checked several locations based on prior intelligence, local authorities said on Friday.
According to the Interior Ministry, 28 individuals were detained, including citizens of India, Iran, Sudan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, China, Kuwait and Russia.
Investigators determined that all 28 were violating Georgia’s law on the legal status of foreign nationals and stateless persons. The detainees have been transferred to the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Center, where procedures are under way for their removal from the country.
