Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on Friday said 35 foreign nationals have been detained as part of a crackdown on illegal migration.

Those detained include citizens of Turkey, Egypt, China, Iran, India, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Turkmenistan.

Authorities said the individuals were found to be in violation of the requirements set out under Georgia’s law on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons.

The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Relevant procedures are under way with a view to their expulsion from the country, the ministry said.
