Georgia’s Interior Ministry has detained 41 foreign nationals as part of a series of immigration enforcement operations conducted in Tbilisi and Batumi.

The operations were carried out by the Migration Department and targeted individuals residing in the country without legal grounds. Those detained include citizens of Turkey, Turkmenistan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Algeria, China, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Jordan and Iraq.

Officials said the checks were conducted across specific locations and various types of facilities, with the aim of identifying individuals in violation of Georgia’s immigration laws, including the legislation governing the legal status of foreign nationals and stateless persons.

The Interior Ministry said that all detainees were found to be in breach of residency requirements. They have been transferred to a temporary detention centre run by the Migration Department, where procedures for their deportation are currently underway.
