Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Friday said migration department officers had carried out special immigration control operations across the country, resulting in the detention of 46 foreign nationals residing illegally in Georgia.
Those detained included citizens of Yemen, Pakistan, India, Turkmenistan, China, Cuba, Sudan, Nigeria, Belarus and Egypt.
The ministry said officers inspected specific locations and various facilities as part of the operation, aimed at identifying foreign nationals staying in Georgia without legal grounds.
Authorities said the detainees were found to be in violation of Georgia’s law on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons.
The Interior Ministry said the individuals had been transferred to the migration department’s temporary accommodation centre, while procedures for their expulsion from the country were underway.
