Georgia’s Interior Ministry has detained nine foreign nationals during a targeted operation against illegal migration, officials announced on Friday.

The operation was carried out by the Migration Department as part of broader efforts to combat unlawful migration. Specific locations were inspected based on intelligence aimed at identifying foreign nationals residing in the country without legal grounds.

Those detained include citizens of India and Nepal. Authorities said it was established that they were in Georgia in violation of the country’s law on the legal status of aliens and stateless persons.

The individuals are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre while procedures are under way to deport them.

The Interior Ministry said it would continue similar measures to prevent and address cases of illegal migration.
