Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Wednesday said the Migration Department, working in close coordination with other relevant units of the ministry, deported 97 foreign nationals from the country during operations carried out over the past week.
Those expelled include citizens of Turkey, China, Egypt, India, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Kenya, Sudan, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Jordan, Russia, Somalia, Thailand and several other countries.
The Interior Ministry said the deportations were carried out as part of ongoing nationwide intensive enforcement measures targeting individuals residing in the country illegally.
Officials added that the total number of undocumented migrants removed from Georgia has now exceeded 1,000, describing the figure as unprecedented when compared with statistical data from previous years.
Under current legislation, the deported individuals have also been banned from re-entering the country, the ministry added.
