Georgian authorities have detained six foreign nationals, including citizens of India and Iran, as part of a special immigration control operation aimed at curbing illegal migration, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Friday.
The operation was carried out by the Ministry’s Migration Department, which conducted targeted inspections at specific locations based on prior intelligence. According to the Ministry, the aim was to identify individuals residing in the country without a valid legal basis.
The detained individuals were found to be in violation of the Law of Georgia On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons and have since been transferred to a temporary accommodation centre operated by the Migration Department. Deportation procedures are currently underway.
Authorities said such immigration control measures will be conducted on a regular basis to ensure compliance with national laws regarding the legal status of foreign nationals.
