Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Sunday highlighted the historic significance of Georgia’s Constitution, marking 30 years since its adoption.

“Thirty years ago, through the adoption of the Constitution, the Georgian people renewed the construction of a free, sovereign, democratic state based on the principles of justice,” Kavelashvili said during an event held at the Presidential Palace.

He congratulated citizens on the occasion.

“I want to extend my congratulations to all of Georgia on today’s celebration. On August 24, 1995, exactly 30 years ago, the Georgian Parliament adopted the Constitution of Georgia, building upon the historic-legal heritage of the first 1921 Constitution. This decision represented a crucial step in the establishment of the modern Georgian state,” Kavelashvili said.

During his address, the President emphasised the importance of the Constitution as the country’s fundamental law.

“The Constitution is the supreme legal document regulating the relationships between individuals, society, and the state. It clearly ensures a balance of freedom, equality, and order, with the ultimate goal of providing every person an equal opportunity to pursue safety and well-being”, he added.
