Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Tuesday praised the country’s athletes for their achievements in 2025, saying Georgia is a small but ambitious and talented nation with distinguished representatives in every sport.
Speaking at the Best Athlete of 2025 awards ceremony, Kavelashvili expressed special gratitude to athletes whose achievements brought international recognition to Georgia throughout the year.
“I would like to extend a special welcome to our outstanding athletes who made our country proud in 2025. Through their tireless work and dedication, they once again made our national anthem heard and honoured our entire nation. I thank them deeply for this,” the President said.
Kavelashvili noted that Georgia’s sporting results have improved year after year, attributing this progress to the dedication of athletes and strong state support.
“It is well known how our sporting results improve from year to year. The statistics achieved by our country in recent years are truly remarkable. These successes are the result of our athletes’ tireless efforts, but we also understand that without the state’s special role and targeted support for sport, such results would not have been possible,” he said.
The President highlighted ongoing and planned reforms aimed at developing sport nationwide, including the creation of multifunctional sports infrastructure in all regions and municipalities.
“We are an ambitious nation - small, but talented. There is no sport in which we do not have outstanding athletes or notable success. We must be a healthy and strong nation, and that is impossible without sport,” Kavelashvili said.
He added that new sports infrastructure will serve citizens of all ages, especially children and young people, while educational reforms will strengthen school and university sports programmes.
“Our goal is not only success at the elite level but also the development of amateur sport, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to engage in physical activity. This is our vision and our ambition,” the President said, wishing continued success to Georgia’s athletes and expressing pride in their achievements.
