Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Wednesday claimed the European Union “no longer values justice, human rights or political freedoms” and is driven by a “fading pseudoliberal ideology”.
Kavelashvili said EU diplomats may personally think differently but are compelled to “follow instructions” as part of the bloc’s bureaucratic system.
“We know that an EU ambassador may privately think in a completely different way, but since they are part of this bureaucracy, they are not allowed to speak or act differently, they simply carry out orders,” he said.
He argued that the EU has “turned away from the Vienna Convention”, abandoned fundamental values and is constrained by what he described as “stagnant bureaucracy” and a declining ideological framework.
“Europe is dependent on this fading pseudoliberal ideology, which is gasping for air and cannot develop further. If Europe does not confront this ideology, the discussion will be about Europe’s disappearance,” Kavelashvili stated, adding that conservative forces and public discontent are already growing within the bloc.
Kavelashvili also claimed the EU is experiencing “regression across all parameters”, despite its vast resources and strong member states.
