Georgia’s president, Mikheil Kavelashvili, has expressed condolences to the families of those killed in a fatal railway disaster in Spain.

Kavelashvili on Tuesday said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy, which claimed several lives as a result of a train accident.

“I express my deep sorrow over the tragedy that unfolded in Spain, where a railway incident resulted in the loss of human lives,” he said. “I extend my condolences to the families of the victims and express solidarity with the Spanish people during this difficult time.”

According to the latest official figures, 39 people were killed and at least 170 others injured after a collision involving high-speed trains in Spain.
