President Mikheil Kavlelashvili has paid tribute to Georgia’s veterans, thanking them for their courage and sacrifice in defending the nation, as the country marked Veterans Day on Friday.

“On behalf of the Georgian people, I sincerely thank you for protecting our homeland during its most difficult times. Today reminds us once again to cherish the values and ideals you fought for and continue to defend,” Kavlelashvili said during a ceremony dedicated to the occasion.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, and representatives of both the executive and legislative branches, as well as the Patriarchate.

In his speech, the President highlighted the “deep connection” between peace and freedom, noting that veterans understand their value better than anyone.

“Georgia is a small but proud and dignified nation that knows the price of peace and freedom,” Kavlelashvili said. “Our history has taught us that fighting for freedom means fighting for peace - and preserving peace means defending freedom.”

He also honored the memory of fallen heroes and called for their legacy to be passed on to future generations.

“It is our duty to ensure that our children grow up with the right values and awareness of your heroism - that is the key to Georgia’s bright future and enduring sovereignty,” the President said.

Kavlelashvili stressed that supporting veterans remained one of the government’s top priorities, adding that their service “is invaluable to the Georgian nation.”

“On behalf of all Georgians, I once again congratulate you on Veterans Day and thank you for your sacrifice and devotion to our homeland. May God protect our country and all of us,” he concluded.
