Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has said the world is undergoing a fundamental transformation of the international order, arguing that peace, stability and sustainable development should remain central priorities for Georgia.
Speaking at the 16th Tbilisi Regional Sustainable Development Forum, titled Connecting the South Caucasus for a Sustainable Future, Kavelashvili said the event's theme reflected the geopolitical and existential challenges facing both the region and the wider world.
"Today we are witnessing the writing of a completely new chapter in human history," he said. "The international order is changing fundamentally."
He added the world is moving from a unipolar system towards a multipolar international order, making the future increasingly uncertain and less predictable.
Kavelashvili said the sustainable and fair resolution of conflicts had become more difficult, while global peace was now more fragile than ever. As a result, he argued, power, realism and pragmatism were playing an increasingly important role in international relations.
He said that, in an era marked by uncertainty and competing media narratives, particular importance should be attached to the course pursued by Georgia's current government.
"That course is peace, stability, sustainable development, sovereignty, the protection of national interests and standing on the side of truth," Kavelashvili said.
