Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has met the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha to discuss bilateral relations and prospects for expanding cooperation.
Kavelashvili personally offered his condolences to the Qatari emir over the death of the country’s former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and paid tribute to his contribution to the development of modern Qatar.
The two leaders reviewed the partnership between Georgia and Qatar and discussed opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Kavelashvili also thanked Qatar for its continued support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting highlighted the importance of peace, stability and diplomatic dialogue in the region, including Qatar’s role in international mediation efforts, the presidential administration said.
