Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit to Tehran, the Georgian presidential administration said.
According to the president's press office, Kavelashvili expressed his condolences over the recent tragic events in Iran and paid tribute to those who lost their lives.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations between Georgia and Iran, as well as the agenda for future cooperation, with particular attention given to the importance of promoting peace and stability in the region.
According to the press office, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation based on mutual respect, recognition of each other's sovereignty and consideration of national interests.
Kavelashvili also thanked Pezeshkian for Iran's continued support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the statement said.
During his visit to Tehran, the Georgian president is also scheduled to attend the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, alongside leaders and delegations from countries in the region, including Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as other states.
