Georgia’s President, Mikheil Kavelashvili, has said that the past year was difficult and full of challenges for the country amid what he described as a heavy global geopolitical environment.
Speaking at the Ambassadors’ Conference 2025, Kavelashvili said Georgia was firmly committed to protecting its sovereignty, national interests and peace for its citizens.
He said that because of what he described as Georgia’s principled position, the country had faced what he called a number of unjustified accusations and had been forced to confront large-scale campaigns that, in his words, were not guided by the best interests of Georgia or its people.
Despite the challenges, the president said that studies and reports by various institutions and organisations showed that, based on measurable and objective data, Georgia was performing strongly in several areas - not only leading within the region but, he claimed, outperforming some European Union and NATO member states.
Kavelashvili also said that Georgia was continuing to strengthen and deepen its economic and political ties with other countries, guided by national interests.
He said cooperation was being expanded both with neighbouring states and with countries whose partnership could bring long-term benefits. According to the president, Georgia’s strategic location allowed it to increase its importance and role in international connectivity and cross-border projects.
