Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Monday attended a civil funeral service in the capital city of Tbilisi for individuals transferred from Russian-occupied Abkhazia who had gone missing during the armed conflict of the 1990s.

The President’s press office said Kavelashvili paid tribute to the memory of the deceased and offered condolences to their family members.

Of the 11 identified individuals, two were military personnel and nine were civilians. Following the decision of their families, the identified victims, including the servicemembers, will be buried with honours in family cemeteries across different regions of Georgia.

State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani also attended the ceremony.

The civil funeral service was held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi.
