Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Saturday cast his ballot in the local government elections, stressing that the country’s turbulent past had strengthened society and made it more capable of making the right choice.

Speaking after leaving the polling station, Kavelashvili said it was not difficult for him to decide, as one side represents “peace and stability,” while the other stands for “unrest and confrontation”.

“I fulfilled my civic responsibility and made my choice. To be frank, the decision was quite simple. We know that on one side there is peace, development, and stability, while on the other there is unrest, confrontation, and polarisation. I am sure society will also find it easy to decide,” the President noted.

He thanked all citizens for their participation in the elections, regardless of political affiliation, adding that Georgia’s history of overcoming adversity had prepared the nation to make informed decisions.

“Since regaining independence, our country has faced many challenges and gained significant experience. Unfortunately, there were hard times — civil war, three wars, internal confrontations. All of this is behind us now, and our society has become much wiser. It will not be difficult for us to make the right choice,” Kavelashvili said.
