President Mikheil Kavelashvili of Georgia, along with a delegation, will attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on May 18, the President’s press service confirmed on Thursday.
The conclave elected the new Pope on May 8, selecting American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who will now be known as Pope Leo XIV. He succeeds Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21 at the age of 88.
President Kavelashvili, who also attended the funeral of Pope Francis in the Vatican, will once again be present in Rome for this significant event.
The Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica will host the inauguration, drawing world leaders and dignitaries from across the globe. The ceremony is expected to reaffirm the new Pope’s spiritual leadership and set the tone for his papacy.
