Georgia maintains strong and constructive relations with its neighbours, including Turkey and other regional countries, President Mikheil Kavelashvili has said.
Speaking on the programme Aktualuri Tema – with Maka Tsintsadze, Kavelashvili described the region as attractive and full of opportunity, adding that joint efforts were needed to enhance its appeal further.
“We have quite good relations with our neighbours, with Turkey and other countries in the region. We all agree that our region is very attractive, has great potential and should become even more attractive,” he said.
The president stressed that neighbouring states “clearly understand” Georgia’s strategic importance, particularly in relation to major regional projects. According to him, it was “inconceivable” for such initiatives to be implemented without Georgia’s involvement.
“Sometimes leaders of other countries may not mention us, but it is unimaginable to carry out projects without Georgia. Our neighbours know this very well, and I thank them for that,” Kavelashvili said.
He identified the Middle Corridor - a trade route linking Asia and Europe via the South Caucasus - as a key platform for development. The president noted that the corridor “not only strengthens connectivity between continents but is also directly linked to broader stability and peace efforts in the region.”
“The Middle Corridor is one of the most important platforms for development, connecting Asia and Europe. It is also directly related to the resolution of even peace processes in this region. We are motivated by this,” he added.
