Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili is on a working visit to Astana, Kazakhstan, where he will participate in a regional ecological summit, the presidential administration said.
The President’s press office said an official welcoming ceremony was held at Astana International Airport, where Kavelashvili was received by Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov, Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek.
Kavelashvili is expected to deliver a speech at the summit’s plenary session.
The forum, held in partnership with the United Nations, will bring together regional leaders to discuss challenges caused by climate change and the importance of coordinated efforts to address them. Special attention will also be given to connectivity issues, which are considered crucial for landlocked countries.
Leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia and Armenia, as well as the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, are participating in the summit. Heads of various international organisations are also among the speakers.
During the visit, Kavelashvili is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
