Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow have held talks in Tbilisi focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, with both sides highlighting trade, transport, energy and the strategic role of the Middle Corridor, the Georgian president’s press office said on Thursday.
The meeting followed an official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, where the two leaders observed the national anthems of Georgia and Turkmenistan before holding one-on-one talks.
Kavelashvili described Berdimuhamedow's first state visit to Georgia as an important milestone in bilateral relations and a clear sign of stronger high-level political dialogue.
The presidents discussed expanding trade and economic ties, encouraging investment, deepening cooperation in the energy, transport and logistics sectors, and making more effective use of the Middle Corridor.
The Georgian side also underlined the country's interest in strengthening transit links between Europe and Asia, including through the future potential of its Black Sea ports and the Anaklia deep-sea port.
The talks also covered closer cooperation in culture, education and science, including youth and academic exchange programmes and joint cultural initiatives.
