Georgia’s President Mikheil Kavelashvili has called for national unity and a renewed commitment to shared values, as he attended a Christmas service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi.

Speaking to journalists, Kavelashvili said that at a time of global challenges, unity within the nation is of critical importance. He described Christmas as a moment to strengthen love, faith and solidarity among the Georgian people.

“There is no greater event in human history than the birth of Christ,” the president said, adding that Georgia’s identity is inseparable from Christianity and Orthodoxy. He noted that the country has been Christian for more than 1,700 years and credited faith with helping Georgia survive repeated historical challenges.

Kavelashvili also praised the role of the Georgian Orthodox Church and its clergy in preserving religious belief and national identity, saying that Georgia cannot be imagined without its Christian heritage.

Turning to domestic politics, the president said the country is governed by authorities who prioritise Georgia’s national interests. He stressed that, regardless of international developments, protecting national interests must remain the government’s central responsibility.

The president concluded by extending Christmas greetings to the public, calling on citizens to remain firm in their faith, trust one another, and have confidence in the country’s leadership.
